We are visiting a local toddy tavern in Jaffna Are the stray dogs outside the taverns and food stalls dangerous if we eat there

The stray dogs near food stalls and taverns in Jaffna are usually just looking for scraps of crab curry. They are generally harmless during the day. However, do NOT pet them, and do not try to take their food. If you are bitten or scratched, you must immediately wash the wound with soap and go to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for free Rabies shots.

Just ignore the dogs. Do not make eye contact and they will leave you alone.

Do not eat the super spicy raw seafood they sell outside the tavern if you have a weak stomach though.
