Just watched 65-year-old elephants and Parliament said a gazette is coming - are we the problem for staying

We stayed. We saw chains, we saw the lights, we also saw a city that treats this as religion not a show. This afternoon a deputy minister told Parliament the new gazette on giving tamed elephants to peraheras is almost ready, and an MP said most of them are 65-70. I do not want a lecture from either side. I want to know if walking away tomorrow is the only decent option or if staying for Randoli is still a normal thing locals do.

This is a living religious procession, not a zoo ticket. The welfare argument is real and it is also Sri Lankan - courts already made them rewrite a gazette. Jayakody said today they are not stopping elephants for peraheras; they are rewriting how tamed elephants are provided. You will not resolve that on a forum at 8pm. If you are sickened, do not buy a Sunday gallery. If you stay, stay quiet, no flash, no selfie stick in a trunk.

Do not yell at a mahout in the street. That helps nobody and it is how a crowd turns on you.

If we stay Sunday do we stand further back so we are not the ones next to a chain, or is that just theatre.
