Kabalana Beach A frame waves and Ahangama underground techno
5 Answers from travellers
You are heading to the right place. The Rock at Kabalana offers the best A frame reef break on the south coast. Ahangama has also become the epicenter for underground electronic music in Sri Lanka. Spots like Trax and Lamana host incredible international DJs playing deep house and techno right in the jungle behind the beach.
It is very relaxed. Boardshorts and bare feet are totally fine. The scene is very bohemian and anti commercial.
Trax in Ahangama is literally built next to the old railway tracks. The vibe when a train roars past while the bass is dropping is unbelievable.
Is there a dress code for the techno spots there, or is it standard backpacker surf gear.
The Rock gets very crowded at dawn. If you want a wave to yourself, try surfing it mid day when everyone else is hiding from the sun.
