Kappalady lagoon kite surfing and sunset beach parties
3 Answers from travellers
Kappalady is perfect right now. The southwest winds are starting to build up steadily in late April, giving you flat water butter sessions without the traffic of the main Kalpitiya lagoon. The kite camps here are smaller and more intimate, so the sunset parties feel like private beach bonfires with great music rather than massive commercial raves.
Kite Centre Sri Lanka in Kappalady throws amazing Friday night BBQs. Everyone just cracks open cold Lions after a long day of riding and watches the sunset over the ocean side.
Make sure your kite sizes are right. You will probably need a 12m or 14m kite this early in the season since the heavy 20 knot winds do not usually arrive until late May.
