Booked a morning raft on the Colombo to Kandy run earlier this week. Kitulgala is monsoon country. Daily FC posted Kitulgala 1.85 m against a 3 m alert on the 18th. Do they still run Grade III when it dumps overnight or do we just pay and look at the river.

We look at the gauge and the colour at 6am, not a Tuesday DMC PDF. Normal-to-lively is the August default and it is more fun than January. If it hits unsafe we cancel or drop to a short scenic. Weather cancel should be a refund or a rebook, not a souvenir t-shirt. Helmet and jacket on, listen to the guide in the first rapid.

We ran Wednesday, brown water, two big hits, grinning. Not a toddler trip.

Kegalle-side roads can be the amber landslide ones - leave slack, do not add a Deraniyagala shortcut.

Also - lifejacket in my size? I am not small and the photos all look like school trips.

Waiting for the 6am call. If they cancel I want a refund not a shirt.
