Morning is always better. By 11 AM, the onshore wind picks up and chops out the waves. However, surfing heavy reef breaks like The Rock hungover on 3 hours of sleep is a terrible idea. You need sharp reflexes to avoid the coral. Sleep in, or stick to the forgiving sandy beach break at Kabalana Beach instead.

The offshore wind is magical at 6 AM though. The waves are like glass.

I tried dawn patrol after Lamana. Paddled out, threw up, and paddled back in. Drink lots of king coconut water.
