In Kitulgala rainforest, the leeches are always active. Buy leech socks, tuck your pants in, and rub Ayurvedic Siddhalepa balm or salt/soap water on your boots. Your homestay will usually provide a soap spray.

Do not pull them off if they bite! Use salt or a lighter, otherwise their jaws stay in your skin and it gets infected.
