We are doing Udawalawe. Is morning or evening better to see elephants?

Both are great. Morning (6 AM) is cool and you see them active before the heat. Afternoon (3 PM) is when they come to the reservoir to drink and bathe. Either is fine.

We did the afternoon one and saw hundreds of them at the water. It was the best experience.

Just avoid the 11 AM - 2 PM window. The elephants go into the deep jungle to hide from the heat.
