The ancient Muhudu Maha Viharaya is right next to the beach in Pottuvil near the surf spots. Can we walk around the ancient stupas with our surfboards.

It is highly disrespectful to carry surfboards through a Buddhist temple compound. Leave your boards at your guesthouse or locked in your vehicle. You must also adhere to the strict dress code (white or light clothes covering knees and shoulders) and remove your shoes before stepping onto the sandy grounds around the ancient stone statues.

The site marks the spot where Princess Viharamahadevi is said to have washed ashore in ancient times. It is a place of quiet reflection, not a shortcut to the waves.
