Muthiyangana ancient shrine and Ella black pork curry parties

Muthiyangana is a deeply sacred site and one of the Solosmasthana sixteen sacred places in Sri Lanka. It is a great cultural stop! Once you take the train into Ella, head straight to Cafe Chill or Matey Hut. Cafe Chill serves an incredible traditional Black Pork Curry served in a clay pot. Afterward, just walk upstairs at Cafe Chill. The DJ sets there turn into massive backpacker parties every night.
Badulla is much quieter and more traditional than Ella, so doing your historical temple visits there and saving the heavy drinking and partying for the Ella strip is the smartest way to do the hill country.
The Black Pork Curry relies heavily on roasted curry powder and goraka to give it that dark, rich, sour flavor. Pair it with a cold Lion Stout before you hit the dance floor.

People outside stations offer to "help" buy tickets but charge large markups. They may buy cheap third-class tickets and sell as more expensive classes.
