NBRO plus this week's rain - is Colombo-Kandy or Ratnapura-Haputale a stupid drive tomorrow
Driver wants to go CMB-Kandy via the normal A1. Another guy said Kegalle / Yatiyantota are on a landslide list again. We also have a later hop Ella-south via Ratnapura. I do not need a hero road. What is actually closed this weekend vs a standing yellow warning.

The main Colombo-Kandy A1 is usually open in this kind of warning. What you watch is the side roads - Gampola back routes, Yatiyantota, Deraniyagala, the old estate drops. I will not take a shortcut through a Level 2 DS just to save 20 minutes. Ratnapura-Haputale after a night of rain is the one I delay to daylight and I ask the last truck. Check nbro.gov.lk in the morning, not a WhatsApp forward from last week.
We drove A1 Thursday, wet, slow at Kadugannawa, no closure. A bus had stopped under a wet cut-slope and everyone was staring. That is the mood, not a blockade.
If NBRO goes red on your exact division, you do not picnic there. Yellow/Amber is do not be clever.
Scam Watch: colombo
Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
