Pettah market then Dutch Hospital lunch - is that a pickpocket morning or just loud
Rainy Colombo Saturday. Thought: Gangaramaya temple, walk Fort / Dutch Hospital, poke Pettah for fruit and a SIM top-up. Solo, small backpack. Reddit still screams Pettah like it is 2012. Is the market actually spicy this year.

Pettah is busy, not a war zone. Phone in the front, bag zipped, no jewellery display, do not follow a "cheap gem / tailor this way" helper. Dutch Hospital is the opposite mood - cafes in a renovated warehouse, card-friendly, fine. Gangaramaya is a working temple: cover up, shoes off, donation if you like, do not climb on the cars-and-statues pile for a reel.
Pettah 20 minutes, bought mango, left. Fort clocks and the hospital precinct were the actual morning.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
