What is the best time to visit Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya in Colombo.

The incredibly deeply historic Bellanwila temple is most brilliantly atmospheric exactly at dawn around six in the morning. The massive crowds have not yet arrived and you can perfectly peacefully observe the morning pooja offerings completely undisturbed.
If you visit during the massive annual Esala festival month usually August the temple becomes spectacularly vibrant but incredibly heavily crowded. Evening visits are also beautiful because the majestic Bodhi tree is gorgeously illuminated by hundreds of small oil lamps.

Driver claims the meter is broken and quotes an inflated flat rate. Common on arrival at airport or railway stations when tourists are tired and disoriented.
Drivers wearing official-looking uniforms claim to be "government-approved" and charge 3-5x normal rates. They may have fake badges or ID cards.
Women with babies approach asking you to buy milk powder at a nearby shop (not cash). The shop is run by accomplices and charges 5-10x normal price.
