In Trinco 25-28 Aug. Want turtles and coral, not a boat into a washing machine. Park fee + boat - what should I budget and is the reef still a thing after all the tourists?

August is the season, calmer seas, park open. You need the marine-park permit (same DWC-style USD stack, operators quote about USD 25 base plus service plus tax - confirm at the gate) plus a boat from Nilaveli. Life vest, reef-safe if you have it, do not stand on coral. Morning is clearer. Boat is often quoted per boat not per person, share with 4-6. Ask whether the quote includes the foreigner ticket.

Half day, turtles, some bleached bits, still the easiest "I saw a reef" here this month. Take cash for the gate.

If they cancel for weather, that is the honest operator. Do not shop for someone who will go out in a mess.
