I want to travel responsibly. Any specific things I should do (or avoid) regarding plastic, water, wildlife, and communities?

Bring a reusable water bottle and use refill stations or buy large 5L bottles to refill (many guesthouses have them). Say no to plastic bags and straws. For wildlife, only visit national parks with licensed guides - never ride elephants or support places that offer it. Buy local products directly from makers when possible. Support community tourism initiatives in villages.

Also be mindful of water usage in drier areas and support hotels that have proper waste management. Many smaller guesthouses are doing great work on sustainability - ask them what they're doing.

Reusable bottle and avoiding elephant rides noted. Will research community projects too.
