Planning a loop around the cultural triangle and south. Is hiring a car with driver worth it compared to renting and driving myself?

For most visitors, especially first-timers, a car + driver is worth the extra cost. You can relax, take photos, sleep, and the driver handles navigation, parking, and local knowledge (best places to eat, shortcuts, current road conditions). It's often not much more expensive than self-drive when you factor in fuel, parking, stress, and time saved. Self-drive makes sense if you're very experienced with this kind of driving and want complete freedom on a tight budget. Many people start with a driver and wish they'd done it sooner.
We did both. Driver was much more enjoyable. Self-drive was fine for short stretches but tiring on longer days.
Driver for the main trip, maybe self-drive for one relaxed area. Makes sense.
