We want to swim at Ravana Falls. Are the flash floods really that dangerous, or is the warning just for the monsoon season.

The warnings are 100% real and apply year-round. It might be sunny where you are at the bottom of the falls, but if it is raining heavily in the mountains miles away, a wall of water can surge over the edge in minutes. Over 30 people have died here. Do not swim in the main pools, and definitely do not climb the slippery black rocks past the barrier.

There are usually police stationed at the bridge now who will literally blow a whistle and force you out if you go too far.

If you want to swim safely, take a tuk-tuk to Kithal Ella falls nearby. Much safer and quieter.
