We are heading to Ravana Falls in Ella. Locals are offering to guide us to the upper pools for cash. Is this a scam or is it safe.

This is a dangerous scam. There is no official or safe trail to the upper pools of Ravana Falls. The rocks are coated in black algae and are incredibly slippery. Flash floods also surge over the edge without warning. The locals doing this are risking your life for a quick buck, and the police often arrest tourists caught climbing past the barrier tape. Stay on the bridge.

If you want to swim in upper pools, take a bus to Diyaluma falls instead. Much safer hiking path.

I saw someone break an arm doing that climb at Ravana. Definitely a bad idea.
