Safety walking at night in Jaffna city.

Jaffna is an incredibly peaceful and highly secure city. Walking around the city center after dinner is perfectly safe. The locals are exceptionally respectful and crime rates are very low. However because the city shuts down very early the streets become completely deserted and quite dark after 9 PM. While you are not in physical danger it can feel slightly isolating so taking a tuk tuk for long distances back to your hotel is usually the most comfortable option.
