Violent crime is rare, but walking the Galle Road at 2 AM is dangerous due to speeding night buses and stray dogs. The road is poorly lit and has very narrow shoulders. If you have been drinking, you can easily stumble into traffic. Always flag down a tuk-tuk or pre-book a driver. It is not worth risking your life to save 2 dollars.

The stray dogs are the biggest issue. They get super territorial at night.

Tuk-tuks wait right outside the clubs. Negotiate the price before getting in.
