I am an Advanced Open Water diver heading to Hikkaduwa. Is the coral reef healthy, or should I focus on booking shipwreck dives?

Focus on the wrecks! The coral reef in Hikkaduwa suffered massive bleaching a few years ago and is mostly dead rubble near the shore. The shipwrecks (like the Conch and Earl of Shaftesbury) sit a bit deeper and are teeming with marine life.

Sad to hear about the reef, but wrecks are my favorite anyway. I'll check out Poseidon.

I agree. Poseidon Diving Station in Hikkaduwa runs great wreck tours. You can penetrate the Earl of Shaftesbury if you have your Wreck certification.
