For the most spectacular hidden viewpoint of Sigiriya, you must hike Pidurangala Rock. It is situated right next to the Lion Rock and offers an unparalleled, direct panoramic view of the ancient fortress rising from the jungle.
If you want zero hiking, simply drive along the small dirt roads winding through the local rice paddies on the western side of the rock. The contrast of bright green fields against the massive orange stone is beautiful.
Another great, perfectly peaceful spot is the edge of the Kandalama Reservoir. You can get stunning wide angle landscape shots of the rock reflecting in the calm water, especially during sunrise.
