Should I climb Sigiriya Rock or Pidurangala Rock for the best experience?
I only have time for one climb in the morning. Sigiriya is famous but expensive, while Pidurangala is cheaper and has a view of the fortress. Which one is better for photography and history.

If you value history and archaeology, Sigiriya Lion Rock is non negotiable. You get to see the mirror wall, the ancient frescoes, and the water gardens which are UNESCO wonders. However, if you want the iconic photo of Sigiriya itself, climb Pidurangala at sunrise. It is much cheaper at around one thousand rupees compared to thirty five dollars for Sigiriya.
Do both if you can. Climb Pidurangala for sunrise to see the rock glowing in the first light, then walk over to Sigiriya around eight thirty to explore the fortress before the heat peaks. Wear sturdy shoes for Pidurangala as the final section involves scrambling over large boulders.
