Pidurangala Rock is universally considered vastly superior for sunrise. When you climb Pidurangala you get a completely unobstructed breathtaking view of the sun rising directly over the massive Sigiriya rock fortress itself.

Additionally Sigiriya officially opens its gates slightly later in the morning meaning you often miss the true golden hour colors from the summit. Pidurangala is accessible much earlier and costs a fraction of the price.
