Pidurangala is unquestionably the better sunrise hike. From the top of Pidurangala, you get a completely unobstructed, panoramic view that actually includes the magnificent Sigiriya Lion Rock rising out of the misty jungle as the sun comes up.

While climbing Sigiriya at sunrise is beautiful, you cannot see the rock itself if you are standing on it. Plus, the Pidurangala hike is significantly cheaper and much less crowded in the early morning.
