One nature day left. Yala already done. Sinharaja is the rainforest box. Every report says leech socks, rain, you might not see a bird. Is a day trip from Galle / Udawalawe even sane this month or do we need to sleep in Kudawa.

August is wet-season Sinharaja. You will get leeches. Salt, leech socks, long trousers tucked in, do not panic, they are not a medical emergency for most people. A day trip from Galle is a lot of road for a 4-5 hour walk; better from Deniyaya or Kudawa with a licensed tracker. Blue magpie if you are lucky. Canopy is a forest, not a shopping-mall walkway.

14 leeches, one good bird wave, soaked, happy. I would not wear shorts again.

Tickets at the Forest Department gate. No freelance "cousin is a guide" at the junction.
