We want to book a surf stay for a month Which beach has better intermediate waves and fewer crowds Ahangama or Arugam Bay

It depends entirely on the month you travel. From May to September, Arugam Bay on the east coast is firing, but it gets incredibly crowded at Main Point. From November to April, Ahangama on the south coast is best. Ahangama generally has less dense crowds because the breaks (Kabalana, Marshmallows, Sticks) are spread out over a longer stretch of reef and sand.

Ahangama is also much easier to reach from Colombo. Arugam Bay is a solid 7-hour drive.
