Is it safe to swim in the lower pools of Ravana Falls near the main road. The signs say danger but there are lots of locals swimming there.

It is highly dangerous and not recommended. The rocks at Ravana Falls are covered in a specific type of extremely slick black algae. People slip constantly. Furthermore, sudden rains in the hills above can cause flash floods in minutes. Over 30 people have drowned there over the years. Do not climb past the designated viewing platform.

The locals know exactly which crevices are safe to step in, tourists do not. Just take photos from the bridge.
