The luxury AC buses have deep undercarriage storage, but it fills up fast with suitcases. A 7-foot board is pushing the limit of what fits easily. You must arrive at the Bastian Mawatha bus stand at least an hour early to negotiate with the driver. If it fits, they will charge you an extra 1000-2000 LKR fee. If it is a holiday weekend, they might refuse it.

Make sure you have a heavily padded travel bag. The roads get very bumpy near Pottuvil.
