Guide who has hosted many travellers so the real prepared not put off picture The heat this is the main one to plan for the heat and humidity are real and a larger body feels it more so build your trip around it activity in the cooler mornings and late afternoons midday rest hydrate constantly choose accommodation with AC and a pool the cooler HILL COUNTRY (Kandy Nuwara Eliya Ella) is a blissful relief from the lowland heat build in hill time loose breathable cotton and linen and you manage the heat well it is about pacing and smart clothing Transport realistic the TUK TUK is small and snug (fine for shortish rides just cosy) for longer journeys a CAR AND DRIVER (the car and driver threads) is the comfortable choice roomy AC and door to door it is the single best comfort decision TRAINS the seats and especially the reserved seats are okay second and third class get crowded and the seats are basic a reserved first or second class seat for the scenic legs is more comfortable BUSES are cramped and best avoided for long hauls at size INTERNAL FLIGHTS and seaplanes are small aircraft (snug seats) the car and driver removes most transport worries Clothing and temple dress bring your OWN larger size clothing from home including loose long layers for temple dress (shoulders and knees covered the temple dress threads) do not rely on finding large sizes locally (local clothing runs smaller) a lightweight long sleeve shirt and loose long trousers or a large sarong (sarongs are adjustable and brilliant for temple dress at any size) work well a big breathable cotton wardrobe is your friend Activities and comfort be realistic and adapt the SIGIRIYA climb is a hot steep stair climb (manage expectations rest take it slow or enjoy Pidurangala or the base if a long hot climb is not comfortable no shame) many sites are easy walking choose what suits go at your pace good supportive shoes a hand fan electrolyte sachets for the heat and chafing prevention (the humidity causes chafing prevention products from home help) Other things the warmth of the people means you are treated with kindness and respect plan the heat and transport and you have a wonderful trip so prepared not put off build around the heat (mornings hill country AC) use a car and driver for comfort bring your own larger clothing and a big sarong for temple dress adapt the strenuous climbs to your comfort and pack for heat and chafing and the island is very enjoyable at size

The no shame in adapting or skipping the hot steep climbs point matters Pidurangala and many sites give you the reward without the brutal Sigiriya staircase choose the experiences that suit you and enjoy them rather than suffering for a checklist

The car and driver over the buses and cramped trains is the comfort key for a bigger traveller I did the scenic train leg once in a reserved seat for the experience and used a driver for everything else the comfort difference is huge

The chafing prevention in the humidity tip is real and rarely mentioned bring your preferred anti chafing product from home the heat and sweat make it an issue on long days and you will not easily find your usual brand here

The hill country being a relief from the heat is so true as a bigger guy I found Kandy Nuwara Eliya and Ella far more comfortable than the lowlands build in plenty of hill time and the cooler air makes everything easier
