Tuk-tuk guy wants 2,000 LKR for 3 km in Kandy - am I the mark?

Just arrived, Perahera crowds, no local SIM yet so PickMe will not OTP. Driver said 2,000 for hotel 3 km from the lake. What is the real meter / app rate so I can argue without being that tourist?

PickMe is the app that actually works in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Negombo. Uber is mostly Colombo cars. App tuk talk in 2026 is often LKR 80-150/km, first km around 100. Short 2-3 km hops on the app often land 150-350. Hotel/street quotes of 2-3x are normal until you show the app. Get a Dialog SIM first, then open PickMe.

Pay cash to the driver if the in-app card flakes. In Ella and Arugam the app thins out - then agree a price or day-hire.

Half day around LKR 2,000-3,500, full day in one area 3,500-8,000 depending on km. Airport-Negombo on the app often 500-900 off-surge.

2,000 for 3 km is a Perahera special. Walk 200 m and try another guy, or wait until you have the SIM.

Unofficial Temple Guide ScamVerified

Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
