Yes, several luxury campsites sit on the buffer zone of Udawalawe. They host beautiful private campfire dinners with acoustic music and drinks. However, loud electronic parties are strictly banned by local ordinances to prevent acoustic disturbance to the wild elephants and leopards in the park.
Book your morning safari first thing. The elephants are very active near the reservoir right now, so you want to be at the park gates by 5:45 AM.
Make sure you zip your tent completely shut. The macaques will absolutely raid your snacks while you are out drinking by the fire.
Kalu Yala is an amazing camp nearby. The vibe is chill, with acoustic guitars and lanterns under the stars. Highly recommend it for a relaxed evening.
