Udawalawe is universally the most reliable park year round. It features sweeping, open grasslands and a massive reservoir, making the elephants incredibly easy to spot without needing binoculars. You will see dozens of them up close.

However, if you are traveling specifically between July and September, Minneriya is unbeatable. This is when The Gathering occurs, an incredible natural event where literally hundreds of elephants congregate on the receding lake bed to feed. Outside of those months, Udawalawe wins.
