In Theravada Buddhism, it is considered highly inappropriate for a woman to physically touch a monk. However, if you are on a crowded train and accidentally bump into one due to a sudden jolt, do not panic.

You have not committed a massive cultural crime. Simply step back, apologize politely with a small nod, and the monk will completely understand it was an accident. They navigate crowded public spaces constantly and are very forgiving.
