The completely ideal time to visit Wilpattu is firmly between February and October. During these highly dry months the dense jungle foliage thins out significantly making leopard spotting much easier near the natural water lakes.

You must absolutely avoid the heavy northeast monsoon rains occurring deeply in November and December. The dirt tracks become massively muddy and practically impassable for standard safari jeeps completely ruining the pristine experience.
