I want to be on top of the rock for the golden hour. When do they stop issuing tickets at the main gate.

The ticket counter at Sigiriya typically closes at 5:00 PM. You must be through the gate by then. Most travelers aim to start the climb around 4:00 PM to reach the summit in time for the 6:15 PM sunset. It is a cooler climb compared to the morning, and the views over the cultural triangle are spectacular in the late light.

Bring a torch for the descent as the stairs can be quite dark once the sun goes down, even though there is some lighting along the path.
