When is the absolute best time of year to visit Yala National Park?
2 Answers from travellers
The absolute premier time to visit Yala is during the severe dry season which typically runs from February to July. During these deeply dry months the water levels in the park drop massively forcing the elusive leopards and other wildlife to gather openly around the remaining waterholes making sightings incredibly frequent.
You should absolutely avoid visiting in September and October. The park authorities frequently completely close Block 1 during these specific months to allow the wildlife to recover from the massive tourist crowds and prepare for the upcoming monsoon rains. Always check the official park opening dates before planning your trip.
