When is the best season for scuba diving in Trincomalee.
I am a certified open water diver wanting to explore the famous shipwrecks and coral reefs of the east coast. When is the absolute best time to visit Trincomalee for clear water and calm seas.

The official diving season in Trincomalee runs from March through September when the east coast enjoys calm seas and excellent visibility often exceeding twenty meters. The peak months are May and June with the warmest water temperatures around twenty eight degrees and almost zero current. Avoid visiting between October and February as the northeast monsoon makes the ocean rough and visibility drops dramatically.
The legendary HMS Hermes wreck lies at around fifty three meters and is strictly for advanced technical divers only. For recreational divers the British Sergeant wreck and the Pigeon Island reef offer fantastic alternatives. Pigeon Island is a marine national park with abundant reef sharks, turtles, and colorful coral formations.
Always book with PADI or SSI certified dive shops along Uppuveli or Nilaveli beach roads. A standard two tank boat dive costs around eighty dollars including all equipment rental. If you are not certified you can complete a full open water course in just four days for roughly four hundred dollars which is significantly cheaper than most other dive destinations worldwide.
