The absolute most famous wreck dive near the east coast is the HMS Hermes located off the coast of Batticaloa just south of Trincomalee. It was the worlds first purpose built aircraft carrier and was sunk during World War Two.

It is an incredibly deep technical dive suitable only for highly experienced advanced divers. If you want shallower wrecks Trincomalee also features several smaller scuttled navy vessels that are beautifully encrusted with vibrant soft corals.
