When is the peak surfing season in Arugam Bay for intermediates?

I want to visit the east coast for surfing. Which months have the most consistent point breaks and are there good schools for people who are not total beginners.

The season runs from May to September with the most consistent swell in July and August. Main Point is world class for intermediates but can get very crowded. For a more relaxed vibe, head to Whiskey Point or Peanut Farm which are just a short tuk tuk ride away. Most schools offer guided surf trips where they take you to the best break based on that days conditions.

If you are visiting in the off season between November and March, the east coast is rainy and the waves are flat. During that time you should head to the south coast like Weligama or Hikkaduwa instead. Arugam Bay effectively shuts down in the winter months.
