We are driving up to the northernmost point of Sri Lanka today. Where can we find the spiciest, most authentic lagoon crab curry right on the beach near Point Pedro.

Skip the fancy hotels. Just before you hit Munai Beach near Point Pedro, look for the small local toddy taverns and family run shacks. They source the crabs directly from the Vadamarachchi lagoon that morning. Ask for the Odiyal Kool as a starter, it is a fiery seafood broth thickened with palmyra root.

Make sure you ask for it with Pittu or string hoppers. Eating Jaffna crab with rice just does not soak up the thick, spicy gravy the right way!

I ate at a tiny place near the Point Pedro lighthouse last year. Prepare yourself, the heat level in the North is intense. Order a sweet falooda to cool your mouth down afterwards.
