I am a serious birder. I heard Kumana is quieter but Yala has more animals overall. Which one would you recommend for the highest diversity of species.

For birding specifically, Kumana is the clear winner. While Yala is famous for leopards, Kumana has a massive natural swamp lake called Kumana Villu that attracts over two hundred and fifty species of birds. Between April and July, tens of thousands of birds migrate here to nest. You will see rare species like the Black necked Stork and Lesser Adjutant without the heavy jeep traffic found in Yala. It is a much more peaceful and rewarding experience for wildlife photography.
