The bamboo and cadjan roof architecture of the surf camps at Whisky Point near Arugam Bay looks so sustainable. Are the Friday night raves there starting up this April.

The architecture at Whisky Point relies heavily on indigenous knowledge, using woven palm fronds cadjan and treated bamboo which is highly sustainable. And yes, the legendary Friday night parties have officially kicked off for the 2026 season! The east coast is waking up right now.

I stayed in one of those cabanas last year. Because of the traditional high pitched roof design, they breathe so well you do not even need AC in the coastal heat.

The acoustics under those massive cadjan roofs are surprisingly great for the techno sets. The sound is much warmer than dancing in a concrete club.
