Yala National Park entrance fees for foreign tourists are approximately 30 USD per adult. In addition to the entrance ticket, you must hire a safari jeep with a driver. A standard half day jeep rental costs around 30 to 45 USD total for the vehicle, which can be split among passengers. It is highly recommended to book your jeep in advance through your hotel in Tissamaharama, especially during the peak season from February to July, to ensure you get a reliable driver who knows where to find the leopards.
Make sure you book the early morning safari, which usually leaves your hotel at 5 AM. Leopards are mostly nocturnal and are most active right at sunrise before the heat of the day sets in. The afternoon light is great for photography, but morning sightings are much more consistent.
Also, remember to bring cash to pay for the jeep and the entrance fees. The ticket counters at the park gates sometimes experience credit card machine outages, so having Sri Lankan Rupees on hand prevents any delays at the entrance.
