Arugam Bay vs Hikkaduwa surfing in late April

I just landed and want to head straight to the beach. Is Hikkaduwa still firing or should I cross the island to Arugam Bay immediately.

Head East! Late April is the crossover point. Hikkaduwa is getting chopped up by early onshore winds from the impending southwest monsoon. Arugam Bay, on the other hand, is already seeing beautiful offshore winds and glassy 3 to 4 foot sets at Main Point. Plus, the East Coast is dry and sunny right now.
