Best camera lenses for wild elephant photography in Minneriya

We are doing the elephant gathering safari in Minneriya. Will a 200mm lens be enough, or do the jeeps stay very far back.

A 70-200mm lens is actually perfect for Minneriya. During the "Gathering" (August/September), the elephants congregate on the open grass plains near the reservoir. The jeeps can get relatively close (safely), and the elephants often walk right past the vehicles. A 600mm lens is often too tight for herd shots. Bring a wide-angle lens as well for environmental landscape shots of the massive herds.

I used a 24-105mm and got incredible shots. They get very close to the jeeps.

Bring a polarizing filter! The glare off the reservoir water in the late afternoon ruins photos otherwise.
