Baththalangunduwa is an absolute must visit hidden gem. It is a completely remote narrow island located a few hours by boat from the Kalpitiya mainland. It is entirely untouched by mass tourism and perfect for wild beach camping.
If you want something much closer Ippantivu Island is fantastic. You can easily hire a small boat to take you there for the afternoon. The water is incredibly peaceful and you avoid the busy kite surfing traffic completely.
Another brilliant secret spot is the Dutch Bay spit. The ocean facing side of this narrow sandbar offers miles of completely empty pristine beaches where you can swim and relax far away from anyone else.
