Baththalangunduwa is an absolutely incredible hidden gem. It is a completely remote, narrow strip of an island located a few hours by boat from the Kalpitiya mainland. It is purely a traditional fishing community, completely untouched by mass tourism, and perfect for wild beach camping.

Another fantastic, much closer option is Ippantivu Island. You can easily hire a small boat to take you there for the afternoon. It is incredibly peaceful, completely avoiding the busy kite surfing traffic of the main Kalpitiya lagoon.
