We are finishing our climb at Pidurangala Rock and want to head straight into the hill country via train to Nanu Oya. Since there are no trains in Sigiriya, what is the best station to connect at.

There is no direct train route from the cultural triangle into the high mountains. Your best option is to take a private taxi or an AC bus from Dambulla straight to Kandy (about 2.5 hours). From Kandy or Peradeniya station, you can catch the famous scenic blue train directly up to Nanu Oya. Attempting to catch a train from Kurunegala or Polgahawela takes way too long and you miss the best scenery.

If you leave Sigiriya by 7 AM, you can easily make the 11:10 AM scenic train departing from Kandy railway station.

Make sure you book your train ticket from Kandy to Nanu Oya weeks in advance! First and Second class reserved seats sell out incredibly fast.

Once you are on the train out of Kandy, sit on the right side of the carriage. After the train passes Hatton, the views over the valleys and waterfalls on the right side are unbelievable.
