We can actually see Ward Street. Cargills Food City looks lit. Other thread was inland Cargills at 9.15 for a water pack. We have water. We need a sealed snack and maybe a poncho for Saturday's 2pm showers. Is the Dalada-side one actually serving at 9.52 or a light behind a locked glass.

Directory listings commonly show Kandy Food City (Ward / Dalada-side) 8:00 AM-11:00 PM. Gatambe / Katugastota listings often 10:00 PM. That is a listing, not tonight's shutter. Walk to the door. If it opens, buy sealed food / a cheap rain layer. If it is glass and a guard, it is closed. Do not announce 11pm as a gazette. No invented prices.
Route-front shops do not always match their Google hours on a Kumbal night. Inland of the lake is still the more likely open door. One look. Then bed.
Ward was shuttered at 9.20 last night and the Peradeniya-road one was a normal supermarket. Your legs will tell you faster than a forum.

TukTuk or tour drivers take you to "gem museums" or "government-certified" gem shops. They receive huge commissions (up to 40%) on anything you buy. Prices are inflated 3-10x the actual value.
Men approach tourists near Temple of the Tooth offering to be guides. After the tour, they demand large "donations" or guide fees (5000-10000 LKR).
